Former President Obama ridicules Trump’s proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall at an event in Berlin, despite having a wall built around his D.C. home for protection.

While speaking alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel during an event in Germany at the Brandenburg Gate commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Christian Reformation, Obama used the platform to lambast the promised wall, saying: “In this new world that we live in we can’t isolate ourselves. We can’t hide behind a wall.”

Democrats have been quick to oppose the border wall that Trump touted throughout his campaign, saying it is “racist” and calling for the U.S. to “build bridges” instead of walls.

Meanwhile, Republicans have remained on the opposite side of the fence, so to speak, arguing the wall will slow the massive influx of illegal immigrants pouring across our borders, as well as mitigate the number of criminals and terrorists that continue to flood into our country at an alarming rate.

After Obama delivered his remarks, many were quick to point out his blatant hypocrisy as his post-White House residence in an affluent D.C. neighborhood, where he plans to live with Michelle and his youngest daughter, Sasha, is undergoing construction of a brick and metal wall for added security.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly disagreed with Obama’s assertion that a border wall would “isolate” America, saying on “Fox and Friends” Friday: “We’re not hiding behind a wall. We’re constructing a physical barrier backed up by technology and of course the great men and women of the Customs and Border Protection to simply safeguard our southern border. We’re not hiding behind a wall, and you can’t defend anything by hiding behind something.”
