Obama Touts Accomplishments of His Presidency

Obama held his last press conference of the year Friday before departing with his family for his annual vacation in Hawaii.

He began by saying he wanted to review “how far we’ve come over the past 8 years.”   He said, “As I was preparing to take office, the unemployment rate was on its way to 10 percent – today it’s at 4.6 percent – the lowest in nearly a decade.”

Obama claimed “we’ve seen the longest streak of job growth on record, and wages have grown faster in the past few years than any time in the past forty.”

He said when he came into office, 44 million people were uninsured, but “today we’ve covered more than 20 million of them.”   He said more people are signing up for Obamacare by the day.

He touted that the poverty rate fell last year at the fastest rate in almost 50 years, while the medium household income grew at the fastest rate on record.   “And we’ve done all this while cutting our deficits by nearly two-thirds,” Obama said.

He bragged that even though America was in the midst of two wars when he came into office, now “180,000 troops are down to 15,000” and that Bin Ladin has been taken off the battlefield, along with “thousands of other terrorists.”

He repeated his claim from days earlier, by saying that over the past eight years, “No foreign terrorist organization has successfully executed an attack on our homeland that was directed from overseas.”

He said we’ve “ensured that Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon,” touted a new relationship with Cuba, and initiated a climate agreement that will save the planet.

In other matters, Obama slammed the media and Americans for being “obsessed” by the hacked emails released by WikiLeaks, and said he told Putin to “cut it out.”
