After dropping off the radar to embark on luxurious family getaways, former President Barack Obama is back in the spotlight giving speeches.
Obama attended a summit in Italy on Tuesday, where he spoke about helping the Democratic Party rebuild and using his presidential center to train a new generation of global leaders.
During a Q&A segment at the Seeds and Chips Global Food Innovation Summit, when asked how he spends his time since his presidency ended, Obama responded:
“We’re spending a lot of time on building our next phase of work, which will involve what we’re calling the Obama Presidential Center. Our goal is to set up the premier institution in the United States, but also to work with other countries to train the next generation of leadership for activism.”
He told attendees the Obama Presidential Center’s mission is to groom the next generation of Democratic leaders and activists who are working in politics, journalism, business, and non-government organizations. He explained the center provides young minds with access to the “tools, training, networks, relationships, [and] funding” needed to become effective global leaders.
He also claimed that people often approach him, saying, “Mr. President, we need you and we want you involved,’” in reference to an ongoing push by Democrats to keep him engaged in rebuilding a capsized Democratic Party.
“I’m happy to get involved,” he later added.
Obama concluded his message by telling the audience: “The greatest thing I think I can give is to make sure that somebody who is twenty-years-old, twenty-one, twenty-five, who are ready to make their mark in the world, that I can help them so that they can take it to the next level.”
