Otto Warmbier’s father blames Obama for his son’s imprisonment

University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier, has finally been released from a prison in North Korea and returned home, but he was returned in a coma – a condition he has reported been in for the past year, unknown to the family.

At a press conference Thursday, held at Otto Warmbier’s former high school in Wyoming, Ohio, his father, Fred Warmbier, wore the same jacket Otto had worn at his sentencing in North Korea, and blasted the Obama administration for not doing enough to gain his son’s release.

He said his family feels relief that Otto is now home “in the arms of those who love him,” and “anger that he was so brutally treated for so long.”

“We went for 15 months without a word for, or about Otto. It was only a week ago that we were informed that the North Korean government now claims he was in a coma for almost all of that time.”

‘”Even if you believe their explanation of botulism and a sleeping pill – and we don’t – there is no excuse for any civilized nation to have kept his condition secret and denied him top-notch medical care for so long,” Mr. Warmbier said.

“When Otto was first taken, we were advised by the past administration to take a low profile, while they worked to obtain his release. We did so without resolve,” Mr. Warmbier stated, in reference to the Obama administration.

“Earlier this year, Cindy and I decided the time for strategic patience was over,” he added.

He thanked the Trump administration for their efforts in finally getting Otto home, and said they had received a personal phone call from President Trump Wednesday evening.

Mr. Warmbier, when asked by a reported whether Dennis Rodman had anything to do with his son’s release, responded, “Dennis Rodman had nothing to do with Otto. It’s a diversion. I’m sure this is all planned,” adding that he could care less about Rodman’s trip to North Korea.

He also stated that President Obama never met with the family one time, in spite of the many trips they made to Washington, D.C. to speak with then-Secretary of State John Kerry and other lawmakers, in an effort to gain their son’s release from North Korea.

Tucker Carlson of Fox News traveled to Cincinnati for an exclusive interview with Mr. Warmbier, which will air in full Thursday evening.  Below is a preview:
