Outrage over viral video of shark being dragged by speeding boat (video)

An investigation is underway after a video of boaters dragging a shark at “high speed” has gone viral. In the video, you can hear one of the men saying, “Look, it’s already almost dead,” as he laughs and points toward the shark.

Sport fisherman Mark Quartiano, also known as “Mark the Shark,” was sent the video by the two men. He told one media outlet, “There’s no sportsmanlike conduct with these guys,” then added, “They just want to kill something, display it on their Facebook, get more followers. It’s just a horrible act.”

The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it’s unclear if pulling a shark like this is legal in Florida. However, it is clear that what was done to the shark is unethical and cruel. The graphic footage shows the shark being dragged to a slow, drowning death.

It is believed the shark was still alive in parts of the video because dead sharks become stiff.

People across social media have expressed outrage and demanded the men be held accountable for their inhumane behavior.
