Plus: Amnesty will result in INCREASE of welfare costs, as former illegals will then qualify for even more benefits.
The Center For Immigration Studies reported that 87% of households headed by illegal immigrants with children are on welfare, 83% are on some type of food assistance, and 72% have at least one person on Medicaid.
This report was issued in September 2015, based on 2012 statistics. Based on the massive surge of illegals continuing to pour across the US borders in 2014 and 2015, these numbers are NOT decreasing.
Steven Camarota of the CIS writes in his report, “Any suggestion that there are no welfare costs associated with illegal immigrants is incorrect. The SIPP shows that households headed by individuals with a very high probability of being in the country illegally make significant use of food programs and Medicaid.”
He notes that “The results indicate that knowledge of how to navigate the welfare system is extensive in immigrant communities.” Equally important, immigrants, including those illegally in the country, can receive welfare on behalf of their U.S.-born children.

The SIPP indicates that about three-fourths of adult illegal immigrants have no education beyond high school. Once amnestied, they will become less-educated legal immigrants, the group that uses all types of welfare at high rates. Any discussion of the issue must include an understanding that amnesty would increase welfare costs.”[/pullquote]
