University Announces New Pronoun to Replace ‘He’ and ‘She’

Oxford University’s Union encourages their students to use gender neutral pronouns so as not to offend transgender undergraduates.

Instead of saying “he” or “she”, the university said in a student leaflet that everyone should now be referred to as “ze.”

A guidebook was also sent out to schools around Britain for teachers, parents, and pupils, warning them against using ‘sex specific terms ‘ such as boys and girls, which discriminate against transgenders, reported the Daily Mail.  The guidebook stated that children as young as 7 years old are to be taught in schools not to use the terms “boys” or “girls.”

The book – Can I Tell You About Gender Diversity? – also features the use of hormone blockers by a fictional 12-year-old ‘transitioning’ from female to male in order to stop the onset of puberty. The treatment is controversially available to children on the NHS, as first revealed by The Mail on Sunday.

Billed by the publishers as ‘the first book to explain medical transitioning for children aged seven and above’, it is distributed by Educate & Celebrate, a Government-funded body that goes into primary and secondary schools to give lessons on ‘gender diversity’.

According to the statement by Peter Tatchell, an LGBT rights campaigner, “It is a positive thing to not always emphasize gender divisions and barriers. It is good to have gender-neutral pronouns for those who want them, but it shouldn’t be compulsory.” He believes “This issue isn’t about being politically correct or censoring anyone. It’s about acknowledging the fact of changing gender identities and respecting people’s right to not define themselves as male or female. Giving people the ‘ze’ option is a thoughtful, considerate move.”

Cambridge University has also begun talking about gender neutral issues with Sophie Buck, the welfare officer of the Student Union, who is heading the cause.

Buck states, “Events start with a speaker introducing themselves using a gender neutral pronoun. It’s part of a drive to make the union intersectional.”

“Gender neutral pronouns are good. It should happen in lectures too,” stated Franky Sissons, a transgender student in Kings College at Cambridge.

A Canadian professor, Jordan Peterson, has been interviewed several times regarding his videos released rejecting this idea of gender neutral pronouns. Peterson requested the school host a public forum to debate the issue, and the University agreed. Peterson has said that he is now being harassed, some going so far as to glue his office door shut.
