A Pakistani woman, seeking to escape an arranged marriage, poisoned her husband and 12 of his relatives Thursday, authorities said.
Asiya Bibi set out to get rid of just her partner, but ended up killing a sizable portion of his family, as well. She was persistent, first poisoning milk that her husband ended up not drinking, then using it to make lassi, a yogurt-type drink, which she served to him and his extended family.
Along with the 13 dead from last Thursday’s poisoning, 14 more were hospitalized, police said.
Bibi, who lives in the southwest city of Muzaffargarh, was forced to marry in September and tried to flee her home and go back to her parents, only to be sent back to her husband.
