A prominent philantropist from Palm Beach has stated her 9 week old pup, aptly named Patton, may become the first dog of the White House.

The Trump family presently has no pets and would be the first family to enter the White House in 150 years without one.

Lois Pope is looking to make sure that doesn’t happen.  Pope prominent philanthropist in Palm Beach, Fla., and a long time personal friend of the Trump family said in an interview Tuesday, according to The Washington Post, that she is in possession of a 9-week-old golden retriever and poodle mix that will soon become the first dog of the White House.

Pope said she had written to Trump about the puppy awhile back and when she attended a Thanksgiving party at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, Pope showed him a photo of the dog.

According to the article, Trump told her to, “Go over there and show it to Barron,” Pope said, referring to Trump’s 10-year-old son. “He said, ‘He’s going to fall in love with him.”  He said, “Barron will want him.” When she showed the photo to Barron, Pope said, “this big smile came over his face, and it just brought tears to his eyes.”

Pope said she had 10 year old Barron Trump in mind when she chose Patton. Pope realized that the move to the White House will be stressful for the young boy but it would be less so with a dog around.

“It’ll help with the transition. It’ll take away some of the wonder and awe,” said Pope, adding that she could not divulge where she acquired the puppy. “I mean, can you imagine moving into the White House as a child? It’s hard.”

A Trump spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, said in an email Tuesday that “no decisions have been made” about the dog.

Lois Pope is pretty confident that the Trumps will take the puppy named Patton after George Patton, a World War II general who President-elect Trump happens to admire greatly.

“I’m sure. Every president has a first dog. It goes with the presidency,” Pope said.
