House Speaker Paul Ryan said he wouldn’t block Greg Gianforte from sitting in Congress should the GOP candidate win a special election in Montana on Thursday, but he wants the politician to apologize for body-slamming a Guardian reporter

“I think he should apologize,” Mr. Ryan said at his weekly press briefing. Ryan chose not to refer to Gianforte by name, and instead referenced him as “the gentleman.”

Ryan also commented that it’s up to the voters of Montana if they want to elect Gianforte, who is currently in a tight race with Democratic rival Rob Quist.

“I’m going to let the people of Montana decide who they want as their representative. That’s not our choice,” Ryan said.
