Randy Bryce (D Wisc), one of the Democrats challenging House Speaker Paul Ryan (R Wisc), has turned heads in the early stage of his campaign, raising over $430,000 in just 12 days.
Bryce, a labor activist and iron worker who vouched for Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the 2016 election, says the money came from more than 16,000 individuals contributions, the average of which was $25.
“Just a few weeks into this race, we have seen what can happen when you have the power of working people on your side, and I am excited to work with everyone as we continue this fight through next November,” Bryce said in a statement.
Facing off against political activist David Yankovich and Janesville School Board member Cathy Myers, Bryce’s campaign reeled in $100,000 within the first 24 hours.
Hoping to capitalize on Trump’s poor polling numbers from mainstream media outlets, Bryce still faces a tough uphill battle.
House Speakers are rarely ousted by their voters, and Paul Ryan, is one of the most influential and well connected members.
