Pelosi makes wild claim about transgenders in the military

According to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, “Republicans should be ashamed,” after the Republican Rules Committee put an amendment up for floor consideration that would deny funds for gender transition treatments to service members.

Denying funds for gender transition in the military “undermines national security,” Pelosi claims.

Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) filed the amendment to the House National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). If it passes, “funds available to the Department of Defense may not be used to provide medical treatment (other than mental health treatment) related to gender transition to a person entitled to medical care.”

In a statement, Pelosi says the decision will “effectively” ban “brave men and women from serving their country.” She believes that the GOP is “fighting to rip away the health care of thousands of brave service members.”

Pelosi writes:

“This cowardly Republican amendment targeting transgender men and women in uniform effectively bans these patriotic Americans from serving their country.  This disgusting amendment is unprecedented, unacceptable and undermines our national security.”

After speaking against President Bill Clinton’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, Pelosi declares, “We only strengthen our military by honoring our values of freedom and equality.”

Hartzler believes pro-transgender policies reduce military readiness. “Military service is a privilege, not a right,” Hartzler said in June. “It is predicated on winning wars and defeating the enemy. All decisions on personnel and funding should be made with this in mind.”

Pelosi, who still can’t remember the president’s name, contends that the amendment is “cruel, discriminatory and appalling,” and she calls on her Republican colleagues to withdraw it.
