Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, both Democrats, intimated at a National Press Club forum Monday that they might eventually seek to impeach President Trump.
Pelosi first asserted, “The case has not fully been made,” for impeachment of the new president. She went on to say, “You don’t impeach somebody because you don’t like their policies.” But in later remarks, Pelosi claimed that Trump has misled the American people to a degree that “there are plenty of grounds right now for the current president” to be impeached.
Pelosi further contended, “We’re trying to unite the country,” but then said, “Many of the president’s supporters are not ready to accept the fact that their judgement might not have been so great in voting for him, but by the time the case is made, maybe they’ll be ready to accept that.”

She added, “It’s very hard, impeachment.”
Pelosi and Schumer also predicted that Trump’s speech to the House and Senate on Tuesday would be rife with empty promises.
