Rep. Nancy Pelosi has weighed in on President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change, asserting that the president was “dishonoring” God and questioning how he will explain his decision to his grandchildren.
“How is he ever going to explain to his grandchildren what he did to the air they breathe — assuming they breathe air,” Pelosi said.
The California Democrat also claimed that Trump’s decision was a “stunning abdication of American leadership” and that, by withdrawing from the climate change accord, the U.S. has isolated itself from the world.
On Thursday, Trump justified his decision to withdraw from the accord, contending that the agreement as brokered by former President Obama was unfair to the United States. The president noted that he will attempt to renegotiate the agreement, seeking better terms for America.
During her tenure as House speaker, Pelosi facilitated the passing of a bill that would have imposed limits on carbon emissions. Pelosi contended that climate change is a civil rights issue and criticized Republicans in Congress for their differing views.
Lashing out at current Speaker Paul Ryan, Pelosi called him “pathetic” for supporting Trump’s decision.
