On Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi blasted President Trump for pushing the American HealthCare Act without first winning the support of the GOP.

During a press conference on Capitol Hill, Pelosi slammed the decision of the president and Republican leadership: “Rookie’s error on Donald Trump’s part,” Pelosi told reporters. “You may be a great negotiator; rookie’s error for bringing this up on a day you clearly are not ready.”

“You do not bring up your bill just to be spiteful to the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act,” she added. “You build your consensus in your party — and in the Congress, hopefully — and then you bring up the bill.”

The Hill reports that Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan are struggling to secure the nearly 215 votes needed to pass the American Health Care Act, with an onslaught of opposition coming from both sides of the political fence.

Many conservative lawmakers, particularly those in the House Freedom Caucus, are arguing the plan does not go far enough to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and may vote against it.

The California Democrat took aim at Trump voters during her press briefing, saying they voted for a president who will take away a program that benefits them.

“More than $600 billion transferred upward at the expense of working families,” Pelosi said. “Ironically, some of these families are people who voted for Trump, like 57 percent of, in some areas, 57 percent of the people voted for Trump are on the Affordable [Care Act].”

Pelosi also made an allegation that Republicans want to make Americans sick. “That’s their goal, to make America sick again,” she said.

She also accused the GOP’s bill as being an enormous transfer of wealth, taking hundreds of billions of dollars in health benefits from working families in order to fund tax cuts for wealthy Americans.

“TrumpCare is a moral monstrosity that will devastate seniors and hardworking Americans,” she said. “It’s clear that this is not a health care bill. This is a tax bill.”

“This is a bad day for them. It’s bad if they win, and it’s bad if they lose because of what destruction they will wreak in the lives of the American people. And the American people know it.”
