The same night Judge Neil Gorsuch was nominated for the Supreme Court by President Trump, Rep. Nancy Pelosi was quick to give her negative remarks on the conservative choice.
Gorsuch was nominated on Tuesday by the president to replace the late Associate Justice Anthony Scalia.
Pelosi appeared on CNN with her reaction to the nomination, claiming Gorsuch was a “hostile appointment.”
“Elections have ramifications, and here is a living, breathing example of it,” Pelosi told CNN host Jake Tapper. “The president, in his first appointment to the court, and hopefully his only appointment to the court, has appointed someone who has come down on the side of corporate American versus class-action suits.”
Pelosi also claimed Gorsuch has a record of not being friendly to women’s rights or the “American family.”
“It’s a very hostile appointment. Hail fellow, well met — lovely family I’m sure. But as far as your family is concerned …, if you breathe air, drink water, eat food, take medicine, or in any other way interact with the courts, this is a very bad decision…, well outside the mainstream of American legal thought…, not committed to Supreme Court precedents.”
The Washington Examiner reports that Pelosi did not answer Tapper’s question on how she will respond to the appointment. Tapper brought to light the fact the Republicans did not dispute Obama’s appointment of Merrick Garland last year.
“Our members, though, are a very diverse group,” said Pelosi. “We represent America. They have their opinions. They’ve been over there to testify against the candidate for attorney general, Sessions. I’m sure they’ll be over there to express their views on this subject.”
