Vice President Mike Pence issued a statement after President Donald J. Trump announced that the U.S. would be withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear deal.
In his statement, Pence said: President Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal because the United States cannot permit the world’s leading sponsor of terror to ever obtain a nuclear weapon. The deal’s fundamental flaw was that rather than preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon it virtually guaranteed Iran’s ability to start producing nuclear weapons by 2025. It was strong and effective economic pressure that brought I ran to the table in the first place. Working with our allies, we can combine tough-minded American diplomacy and strong economic pressure to reach a new deal that limits Iran’s malign activity and prevents Iran from ever becoming a nuclear power.
