“Pence is somewhere planning his inauguration”

Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) hinted Saturday via Twitter that Vice President Mike Pence is already planning his inauguration in anticipation of a possible President Trump impeachment.

Following the resignation of press secretary Sean Spicer and the ousting of former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, Waters took to Twitter to say the two were somewhere planning for Pence.

“Mike Pence is somewhere planning an inauguration. Priebus and Spicer will lead the transition,” Waters wrote.

Her statements should be taken with a grain of salt, however, as a potential Trump impeachment, if it occurs at all, is a long way off. Waters has consistently been a Trump opponent in Congress and has voiced ousting him from office several times.

Rep. Brad Sherman (D., Calif.) filed a resolution earlier this month accusing Trump of obstructing justice in his firing of former FBI Director James Comey. Republican Senator Linsey Graham (R., S.C.) is currently heading a bipartisan effort to draft legislation preventing the president from firing the new special counsel Robert Mueller, amidst concerns Trump’s bashing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions was a means to doing just that.

The resolution filed by Sherman, which is co-sponsored by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), marks the only formal impeachment documentation put forth against Trump to date regarding possible collusion with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential election.

While clearly an attempt to make the unrest appear worse within the White House, Waters’ tweet shows the political narrative Trump is up against should other key members of his staff leave office as well.
