“All of the sudden, we got a crotch-grabber for a president,” former talk-show host Phil Donahue said Saturday as he talked about his past dealings with President Donald Trump. “This is the darkest political moment in American history. Who’s gonna argue that?”
A television talk show pioneer, “The Phil Donahue Show” ran for 29 years with nearly 7,000 episodes. Trump appeared on the show three times, according to Donahue.
“I thought he was a hot dog,” said Donahue, after acknowledging that Trump was always a go-getter. “He collected celebrities and made a lot of noise and got his name on a lot of buildings.”
The former talk show icon claimed that impeachment probably won’t happen because Trump is too popular, and it wouldn’t be a good thing for lawmakers’ popularity. Donahue credits Trump’s popularity to the fact that he noticed the average American struggling to make ends meet, and he told them they were being “ripped off.”
“That’s the theme I think earned him so much voting power,” said Donahue, noting that the “mainstream media missed this story.”
Donohue is a known liberal.
