Another verbal spar between Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and President Obama has unfolded. On Tuesday, Duterte told the U.S. President “you can go to hell” in a speech regarding how Obama and the White House have been critical of his anti-drug campaign. “Instead of helping us, the first to criticize is this State Department, so you can go to hell, Mr. Obama, you can go to hell,” Duterte said.
Obama was not the only one to face the foreign leader’s wrath. Duterte bashed the European Union too, which has been critical of his country’s crackdown on drug crime. Duterte said the 28-nation organization “better choose purgatory, hell is filled up.”
The novice president took office in June and has left more than an estimated 3,000 suspected drug dealers and drug lords dead in just three months.
Last month, Duterte called Obama a “son of a bitch” for questioning him about the Filipino government’s extrajudicial killings of illegal drug business criminals.
