Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman, 20, of Minneapolis was taken into custody Sunday night after he stabbed two men in a Macy’s store at the Mall of America in Minneapolis.
The incident occurred in a fitting room in the men’s department at Macy’s around 6:45 p.m. Two men who were trying on clothes walked out of fitting rooms to show others in a group their chosen attire. While they were outside, Abdirahaman went into the fitting room area and tried to steal some of the men’s belongings.
When the men returned and caught him in the act, the suspect stabbed them. Other shoppers then apprehended him and held him down until police arrived.
The stabber’s photo has now been released by the Bloomington Police Department. (Scroll down to see photo.)
According to a native Arabic speaker, the stabber’s name translates as follows:
His first name, Mahad, means “the one who preaches and invites people to Islam.”
His middle name, Abdiaziz, means “the slave of Allah the master.”
Abdirahman is a common Somali Muslim last name. It means “the slave of Allah who is the gracious.”
This isn’t the first time a stabbing has occurred at the Mall of America. On Sept. 17, 2016, a terrorist identified as Dahir Adan stabbed 10 people at the mall with two knives, while randomly asking victims if they were Muslim and shouting “Allahu Akbar.” Adan was born in Kenya, was brought to the U.S. at the age of two on a refugee visa, and became a U.S. citizen in 2008. He was shot dead by police as they attempted to apprehend him.
