On Saturday evening, a United Airlines pilot was removed from a plane after she boarded the flight in street clothes and began what passengers described as a rant.

Passenger Randy Reiss told BuzzFeed that the pilot said: “Sorry I’m late. The reason I’m late is I’m going through a divorce.”

“It quickly went from playful to scary,” Reiss continued.

The unidentified pilot of United Airlines Flight 455, which was scheduled to depart Austin–Bergstrom International Airport, talked over the intercom to passengers aboard the plane about her divorce and the recent presidential election, calling President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton “a*******.”

Initially, the pilot seemed playful. However, things became uncomfortable when the singled out an interracial couple sitting in first class.

The pilot, who claimed that she was going to be on Oprah, acknowledged that some of the passengers appeared to be nervous, saying, “Okay, if you don’t feel safe, get off the plane, but otherwise we can go.”

Reiss, who took the opportunity and left the plane, said, “Being a pilot is a tough and stressful job. She was just not equipped today to do it. She seemed in an emotionally tough space, so I hope she finds the help she probably needs.”

The flight, which was delayed more than two hours, was assigned a new crew and landed at its destination in San Francisco behind schedule.

A spokesperson for United Airlines immediately responded to the incident:

“We hold our employees to the highest standards and replaced this pilot with a new one to operate the flight, which we expect will depart shortly.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
