The Associated Press (AP) is reporting a Pittsburgh man has pleaded guilty to killing homeless cats, his reason being that they were defecating on his sidewalk.

In what is being considered a horrible act of animal cruelty, Daniel T. Smith, 44, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in court to poisoning stray cats with mothballs.

It is being said that Smith killed the three homeless cats, who were being fed by two female neighbors, for pooping on his sidewalk.

The colony of homeless cats had been spayed, neutered and vaccinated by the humane organization, Animal Friends.

The women, who were feeding a colony of 11 cats in total, reported in July 2015 seeing Smith put two dead cats in a trash receptacle and witnessing another vomit. The third cat had to be euthanized.

According to police, Smith told the women who were feeding the cats, “I killed six or eight of your cats and I’ll kill the rest of them.”

The charges imposed for animal cruelty carry a sentence of up to five years in prison.

Daniel T. Smith will be sentenced Dec. 7.
