Three people were killed near McKinney, Texas, when two planes collided while in midair on Saturday.

According to Fox 4, Texas resident Larry Ferracioli was outside playing volleyball with his daughter when they spotted the two small planes take off together from the nearby airport.

Ferracioli said that the planes were banking a left turn when suddenly the planes crashed into each other.  The remains of the wreckage were located at an intersection by a storage unit facility where it started a small fire, Fox 4 said.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the two planes collided near Aero Country Airport, which is located approximately 35-miles north of downtown Dallas, shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Lynn Lunsford, FAA spokesman, said, “both aircraft were flying under visual flight rules and were not in contact with air traffic control at the time of the collision.”
