Following a shooting Thursday involving two San Antonio police officers, local officials have reported the sad news that one of the officers, Miguel Moreno died Friday morning from a gunshot wound to his head. His partner, Julio Cavazos, was also shot but has undergone surgery and is expected to survive.
The two officers were investigating a vehicle break-in just north of downtown San Antonio. As they got out of their patrol car to speak to the two suspects, one of the suspects opened fire on them, shooting Moreno in the head.
Cavazos was shot in the chin, but reportedly grabbed Moreno, pulled him to safety, and shot the suspect, who later died.
The second suspect reportedly did not fire at the officers. He is cooperating with investigators.
Both officers were 9-year veterans of the San Antonio Police Department, and both in their 30s, KENS5 Eyewitness News reported.
