A video has been released by the Tempe Police Department that shows the immediate moments before a fatal crash that involved a self-driving Uber vehicle and a pedestrian.
In the dash-cam video (see below), the woman who was killed in the collision can be seen in the exterior view walking in front of the vehicle with her bike.
An interior view shows the driver, identified as 44-year-old Rafaela Vasquez, reacting to the deadly collision. Authorities say the vehicle was in autonomous mode when the crash occured.
From KGUN-9: The crash happened on Sunday, near Mill Avenue and Curry Road. Authorities identified the woman as 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg.
As a result of the crash, the National Transportation and Safety Board is investigating. Uber also announced the suspension of its testing on self-driving vehicles in Arizona, as well as other cities.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will be reviewing the case.
