The Polish cyclist Pawel Poljanski, currently riding for German team Bora-Hansgrohe in the Tour de France, showed the world a shocking photo of the effect the races have had on his legs.
In the photograph, the immense strain the sport has on the human body is made evident. You can see his veins bulging out of his legs and the harsh sunburn he’s suffered, thus far, in the tour.
The 27-year-old posted the photo on Instagram with the caption: “After sixteen stages I think my legs look little tired.”
The 17th stage of the race starts on Wednesday. Right now, Poljanski is in 75th place overall while his team ranks 18th out of 22.
Riders are only allowed two days off during the competition, which stretches for 21 stages in 23 days, and across 3,540 kilometers, through France’s mountain ranges.
