According to WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News  a pregnant medical professional in Jackson, Tennessee was stabbed by 45-year-old Don Fitzgerald White, a patient being treated at Pathways Behavioral Health clinic.

Two officers from the Jackson Police Department initially responded to the scene. When the situation escalated, at least one of the officers fired his weapon at White, who later died at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. His body will be taken to Nashville for an autopsy.

The Jackson Sun reported that Pathways and the adjacent Jackson-Madison County General Hospital were put on lock down, according to West Tennessee Healthcare spokeswoman Beth Parnell. Police cars blocked the section of Summar Drive directly in front of Pathways on Thursday afternoon. The hospital lock down was lifted later in the day.

The health care worker, who sustained over 100 stab wounds in the attack, is currently undergoing medical treatment at Regional One in Memphis. Her unborn baby is reported to be unharmed.

The woman’s sister reported that she needed treatment for wounds to her eye and may have some nerve damage in her arm. It is unknown yet if her vision will be affected.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the incident.
