Priebus: Trump doesn’t believe Putin

In an interview with Fox News Sunday, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said President Trump didn’t believe Putin’s denial of Russian interference in the 2016 election during his meeting with the foreign leader Friday.

“The president absolutely did not believe the denial of President Putin,” Priebus told Fox News Sunday. “He said they probably meddled in the election. They did meddle in the election.”

Priebus’s comments come despite the fact the President fired off a series of tweets Sunday saying the Russian President vehemently denied interference in the 2016 election:

“I strongly pressed President Putin twice about Russian meddling in our election. He vehemently denied it. I’ve already given my opinion. We negotiated a ceasefire in parts of Syria which will save lives. Now it is time to move forward in working constructively with Russia!”

While many US officials on both sides of the aisle believe Russia interfered to some extent in the 2016 the President has been quoted as referring to the meddling as a “hoax” invented by the Democrats and Hillary Clinton.
