Senior adviser to President Trump Jared Kushner has expanded his legal team Tuesday amidst allegations he colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential campaign.
His latest hire is veteran scandals expert Abbe Lowell.
Lowell was chief counsel to Dems in the Bill Clinton impeachment trial, and defended Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff in a bribery case in 2006.
Lowell will join Kushner’s current counsel, Jamie Gorelick, who partnered with special counsel Robert Mueller at Wilmer Hale law firm until Mueller was pulled to lead the Russia probe.
“When Bob Mueller left WilmerHale to become Special Counsel and three of our colleagues joined him, we asked Mr. Kushner to get independent legal advice on whether to continue with us as his counsel,” Gorelick said in a statement. “He engaged Abbe Lowell to advise him and then decided to add Mr. Lowell to the team representing him in the various inquiries into the Russia matter.”
