Liberal history professor Lars Maischak has discovered that publicly advocating for the death of the president is a risky career move.
“To save American democracy, Trump must hang. The sooner and the higher, the better,” was part of Maischak’s message through a series of tweets in February.
It was a move that invited severe backlash on social media, as well as in his real life.
Maischak has recently taken a temporary leave of absence from his job at Fresno State University, reportedly because he “fears for his personal safety.” It appears as though his Twitter account has also been deactivated.
The professor apologized for the threatening tweets once he found himself under federal investigation.
Fresno State president Joseph Castro confirmed that federal agents, including the Secret Service, Homeland Security, and the FBI opened investigations on Maischak after the story of his comments broke nationally in April.
