A-list actor Leonardo DiCaprio has been hit repeatedly with criticism over his traveling practices, as the environmental activist cries about the use of evil fossil fuels while jetting around on private planes.
Reportedly, DiCaprio is caving to the pressure, and is planning to fly commercial next week. The high-profile environmentalist will attend his foundation’s annual gala and auction Wednesday in St. Tropez, France, via a commercial flight.
In the past, DiCaprio was chastised for his hypocrisy on the issue. While the actor has said climate change is “the biggest problem that mankind has ever had to face,” he constantly uses a private jet to fly thousands of miles across the globe, often to attend climate change events or receive awards for environmental conservatism.
For example, in May of 2016, he expanded his carbon footprint by 8,000 miles, taking a private jet from Cannes to New York to receive an award from a clean-water advocacy group. Then, within 24 hours, he was back in France to give a speech.
DiCaprio is also currently facing a Department of Justice investigation, concerning allegations of a Malaysian embezzlement scheme in which billions of dollars are in question.
