Putin labels St. Petersburg bombing a terror attack

A supermarket bombing that occurred Wednesday in St. Petersburg is being labeled as a terror attack by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During a military decoration ceremony, on Thursday, Putin officially determined the attack to be terrorism, further, stating that another recent attempt was successfully stopped by the Federal Security Bureau.

The blast unfolded in a crowded shopping center where customers were celebrating the Christmas season. It’s been reported that 10 people suffered injuries during the explosion. No fatalities were reported.

Investigating officials recovered explosive material from a storage area that was used for customers’ bags.

Despite Putin’s claim, no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the attack and a motive has not been established. Putin further ordered law enforcement officers to “act decisively” to detain those responsible for the crime, as citizens remain on high alert in the country’s second-largest city.
