Radio caller from Montana confirms Rush’s theory about beating on the press

A Montana resident who called in to Rush Limbaugh’s radio broadcast Friday confirmed something the famous host hinted at the day before. Limbaugh said Republican Greg Gianforte may have won his election because people are fed up with the media and didn’t care about his altercation with a reporter.

Limbaugh’s caller said, “I think that the news coverage — and the way they covered this Gianforte thing — I think it really helped Gianforte because people know that people may lose their temper once in a while if they’re goaded or pushed into it — but I really think that he’s a better candidate and people saw it and they just voted for Gianforte.”

Limbaugh told the caller, “That was my instinctive feeling yesterday.”  He said he’d predicted the outcome of the race, despite “the field of doubt” the media was trying cast.

Limbaugh said the media is “their own worst enemy” because they close ranks around a colleague, then “act like everybody is outraged by it… like it’s a great crime.”

Limbaugh says he thinks viewers are angered by invasive reporters, and that many dislike the way Trump and his people are treated.

“They get viscerally angry and there’s nothing they can do about it,” he said. “So they see something like this, and there’s a part of them that cheers it on because they believe that journalists have gone way beyond the bounds of fairness and that they’re actually trying to criminalize certain political beliefs, and they’re fed up with it. I don’t doubt that for a moment.”

Gianforte apologized to Ben Jacobs from The Guardian during his special election victory speech. “When you make a mistake, you have to own up to it. That’s the Montana way,” Gianforte said.
