There’s a large disparity between accounts of what caused Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to be attacked at his home in Bowling Green, Ky last weekend. Paul was tackled by neighbor Rene Boucher, a local anesthesiologist, and suffered six broken ribs as he was mowing his grass.
Boucher’s lawyer maintains that the attack had nothing to do with politics, and suggested that the two neighbors had a verbal exchange revolving around lawn clippings, his comments implying Paul was a negligent landscaper.
But according to other neighbors, Boucher was aggressively anti-Trump on social media. They point to posts that call for impeaching the president, including one message that hopefully suggests special counsel Robert Mueller “fry Trump’s gonads” (see below).
Sen. Paul’s office has confirmed that from their point of view, “This was not a fight. It was a blindside, violent attack” by Boucher. Seven of his neighbors seem to agree. They told the Washington Examiner that the Paul’s are friendly homeowners, and that their property is well maintained.
“The Pauls’ landscaping looks just like everyone’s place in Rivergreen. Wish I could get him to cut my lawn,” said neighbor Robert Warner.
With neighbor’s saying the Pauls’ tidy landscaping habits were not a problem, they offer another reason for the attack against the Kentucky Republican: politics.
Neighbor Dan Renshaw believes the attack wasn’t on Paul as a neighbor, but as a U.S. senator.
The Examiner was given captured screenshots of Rene Boucher’s Facebook page, which have since been taken down, that seem to illustrate Boucher’s political leanings.
