A 20-year old man currently on trial for the brutal rape two years ago of a disabled widow and grandmother, who is now 83, is showing no remorse as she confronts him in court and describes the assault.
Asa Robert was just 18 years old when he broke into the elderly woman’s Brooklyn home on July 13, 2015 and raped her at knifepoint – but he already had racked up an extensive criminal record, including at least eight arrests for robbery, gang assault and resisting arrest.
During the victim’s testimony in court Monday, it was reported that Robert – who is facing 25 years to life in prison – sat sullenly as the victim described the horrors he had forced upon her, and was overheard telling his lawyer that she was “just an old woman,” reported the Daily Mail.
The victim, who has had to use a wheelchair since the attack, described the whole horrifying ordeal to the jury in court Monday, detailing how Robert had broke in her home, ambushed her and raped her at knifepoint.
The woman, who remains unidentified, was outside sweeping the sidewalk in her front yard when Robert snuck inside her home, hid near her bedroom, and attacked her when she came inside. She said he pushed her on the bed and placed a knife on her neck, yelling, “Gimme the money!”
The victim said she told him, “I’m a poor old lady, my family handles all my money.”
She said Robert then began to ransack her home, stuffing clothes into a bag. As he was going toward the door, he suddenly turned around and ordered her back in the bedroom, where he brutally raped, sodomized and suffocated her, in spite of her cries for him to stop.
“This was the most disgusting thing that has ever happened to me. He was on top of me like a pile of bricks. It felt like he was trying to crush me to death,” the victim said.
When he finally stopped, she said he brought her a bottle of water and her medical alert button, and left. She then called her son-in-law for help, and he called the police.
Luckily, Robert was caught on surveillance video, which helped police to identify him, along with evidence collected at the scene, and he was arrested a few days later.
Now, to him, she’s still just “an old woman.”
The following video is an interview with Robert’s mother, after they had identified him as the rapist, but before he was captured. It shows more of the surveillance images of him outside the victim’s home.
Robert was arrested a few days later:
