A little girl who is bound to a wheel chair after being paralyzed from the waist down by a stray bullet, was surprised with a heart-felt gift on Thursday by Atlanta rap artist Big Boi.  The rapper gave the girl a puppy to help in her rehabilitation.

While playing in a bounce house in April of this year, 5-year-old Abriya Ellison was the victim of gun violence in the form of a drive-by-shooting. The incident, which occurred during a neighborhood party just outside of Atlanta, left little Abria with a gunshot wound which required several surgeries, and led to her paralysis.

Big Boi, whose real name is Antwan Patton,  said he wanted to give Abriya the dog with hopes that it will prove to be therapeutic for youngster.

According WSBTV in Atlanta, Patton said, “There’s nothing like having a companion or a service dog, something therapeutic that you can love on, and that can love back on you.”

Patton said Abriya has been through a lot, but she’s proving to be tough. “To see how strong she is now, that was just like ‘Oh my goodness,’” Patton reportedly said. “She’s definitely inspiring and it just touched my heart, so we’re just trying to do what we can to help.”

Patton presented Abriya with the puppy, who she immediately named “King.”  Big Boi and his brother James, will be covering whatever vet care her King will need.  Patton has also offered to renovate Abriya’s bathroom to make it handicap accessible, and pay any medical bills not covered by her GoFundMe account. So far the fund has raised nearly $3,000 of the needed $5,000.

Patton owns a kennel business called Pitfall Kennels, specializing in rare and exotic American Bullies. According to their website, “they strive to pair our clients with their perfect doggie soulmate.” Judging by sweet Abriya’s reaction to King, they’ve made a good match.
