Richard Armitage, a former Republican Deputy Secretary of State, endorsed Democrat Hillary Clinton for the 2016 election instead of his own party’s nominee Donald Trump. Armitage held top national security positions in the administrations of former Presidents George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. For Bush, he served as deputy secretary of State, and for Reagan he served as assistant secretary of Defense,
“If Donald Trump is the nominee, I would vote for Hillary Clinton. He doesn’t appear to be a Republican. He doesn’t appear to want to learn about the issues. So I’m going to vote for Mrs. Clinton.” said Armitage to Politico on Thursday.
Armitage marks as the highest-ranking Republican to break ranks from Donald J. Trump for Hillary Clinton. This comes after Trump announced at a rally on Wednesday in Atlanta he would be fighting through the rest of the race alone, without GOP support, if he has to.
