Refugees suspected of killing own baby to get government settlement

Two asylum seekers in Sweden have been cleared of killing their baby daughter – and even stand to rake in a hefty settlement – because prosecutors can’t decide which parent is responsible for the death.

In the Swedish town of Sunne, a mother and father were arrested after their 5-month old daughter was found to have sustained physical abuse, including head trauma in June 2016.  After being hospitalized, the infant died in Central Hospital in Karlstad and the doctor notified the police.

The 26-year-old mother, who lived with the baby in an asylum home in Sunne, was arrested and put on trial.  Several weeks later, the 20-year-old father was arrested and charged with murder as well.

During the trial, it was discovered that the mother had even lied about her own identity. However, both adults are free because prosecutors could not prove which of the parents were responsible for the death.

According the Swedish news site Nya Wermlands-Tidningen, both parents blamed the other.  Their stories did not match and there was not enough evidence to prosecute either parent.

Thursday the courts awarded the mother 164,000 SK – the equivalent of about $18,000 – for her “suffering” during the time she was held in custody.  The lawyer for the 20-year-old father also plans to seek damages, and is expected to get about the same amount.

The prosecutor, Barbro Brännlund, tried to get the settlement allowance reduced, since the mother had lied about her identity, but that plea was thrown out.

Brännlund said, “We know the time and place and that one of them did it. But their stories differ greatly and we can not prove which version is true, so there is no way to prosecute anyone.”

It is unknown what country the refugee couple are originally from.

Sadly, the infant is not the only victim of violence among the migrant population in Sweden. Breitbart reports that domestic abuse is a trend within asylum seekers’ homes.
