A top adviser to President Biden described the coronavirus pandemic as “the best thing that ever happened” to Biden, a new book reveals.
Biden adviser Anita Dunn made the revealing remark in a conversation with “an associate” during the campaign, veteran journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes revealed in their book.
The article goes on to state the following:
Dunn’s comment was something “campaign officials believed but would never say in public,” the authors wrote in “Lucky: How Joe Biden Barely Won the Presidency,” which is scheduled for release next week.
The Guardian, who obtained an advance copy of the book, first reported on Dunn’s bombshell comment, indicating Trump would’ve easily won re-election if not for the coronavirus pandemic. The Guardian writes:
Obama first “seemed to be enamored with a former Texas congressman, Beto O’Rourke”, Allen and Parnes write, then later told Biden’s aides he feared his friend, aged 77 when the primary began, would only succeed in embarrassing himself and tarnishing a distinguished Washington career.
But Dunn’s reported comment points to what became the dominant theme of the election. As the pandemic capsized Trump along with the economy, Biden, through a much more cautious approach to campaigning and basic public health concerns, appealed to voters as the right man to manage a recovery.
Dunn, who served as advisor and communications director to former president Barack Obama, also served as senior advisor on Biden’s campaign.

According to author Jonathan Allen, the book also reveals: “Biden was so broke in New Hampshire that his team asked about refinancing his home to ensure he could make payroll. The subtext of the question: it might soon be time to quit the race.”
