As President-Elect Donald Trump chooses his cabinet picks, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is turning towards possibly running for chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), according to reports Thursday. The staunch Trump supporter would like to mount a bid to succeed RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, who has been nominated as Chief of Staff for Trump’s cabinet.
However, the Bridgegate scandal has recently costed Christie low approval rating numbers in his home state, and the conviction this month of two former allies on criminal charges has plagued the media news cycles. However, Christie has no plans of leaving until his term as governor ends in 2018.
After failing to receive the presidential nomination and being an early dropout in the race, Christie was enlisted to lead the transition team for the President-Elect. However, due to the scandals, he was kicked off the team in favor of Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
