Democratic pollster Margie Omero said Friday that Democratic voters feel “physically and economically threatened” by the Republican Party and the direction in which it is going.
“A lot of these [Democratic] candidates have messages for a variety of different folks in the Democratic Party for sure,” Omero told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
The article goes on to state the following:
“It’s going to be, I think now, as a contrast to [President] Trump, where people feel threatened by where the Republican Party is headed,” she continued, citing differences between Republicans and Democrats.
“I think that changes the dynamic a little bit in terms of you really do need to speak to the fact that so many Americans, and Democratic voters, in particular, feel…physically and economically threatened by a Republican Party that has gone very extreme,” she said.
Democrats have long expressed outrage toward Republican policies on healthcare and economic issues.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who caucuses with the Democrats, expressed alarm during the congressional Republicans’ effort to repeal and replace Obamacare last year, saying their proposed bill would lead to the death of thousands of people.
“This is not trying to be overly dramatic,” Sanders said. “Thousands of people will die.”
The Republican tax plan has also been a target for Democratic lawmakers, who have said it will harm the poor and benefit the rich.
