After Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was exposed as having paid settlements on sexual harassment charges to eight different women, Democratic politicians have been frantically dumping money Weinstein had contributed to their political campaigns and causes.

However, in an opinion editorial published by the Washington Examiner Saturday, it was noted that Democrats are not returning Weinstein’s money back to him – they are simply “donating it back themselves” by passing it on to organizations that are all solid pro-Democratic in a “money-laundering” scheme.

“In other words, the DNC is shifting cash from checking to savings. The DNC would like to distance itself from Weinstein’s sexual abuse scandal without distancing itself from Weinstein’s cash,” the Washington Examiner reported.

The GOP has reported that Weinstein has given at least $769,532 to Democratic candidates and the Democratic National Committee since the early 2000s, not to mention over $600,000 he reportedly bundled for Barack Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012.

The Clinton Foundation has received at least $250,000 from Weinstein, and over $35,000 more went toward her failed presidential campaign and Victory Fund.

Additionally, a long list of Democratic senators have received political contributions from Weinstein over the past few years. Following a challenge from the RNC that they should “return this dirty money,” many Democrat senators have now announced they are, indeed, getting rid of it.

However, none of the recipients of Weinstein’s political contributions have stated they are returning it back to him.  Instead, they have stated they are giving it away to “charity,” primarily to women’s groups and nonprofit organizations who support female victims of domestic violence.

The Democratic National Committee has reportedly received at least $100,000 in contributions from Weinstein during the 2000s, and the Washington Examiner reported the total as $300,000 in all over the years.

The DNC received $30,000 from Weinstein in during the 2016 election cycle, and announced they will be donating that to three specific charity groups, EMILY’s List, Emerge America and Higher Heights.

The DNC released the following statement, in an attempt to draw President Trump into the scandal:

“The allegations in the New York Times report are deeply troubling. The Democratic party condemns all forms of sexual harassment and assault. We hope that Republicans will do the same as we mark one year since the release of a tape showing President Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women followed by more than a dozen women who came forward to detail similar experiences of assault and harassment.”

“The DNC will donate over $30,000 in contributions from Weinstein to EMILY’s List, Emerge America and Higher Heights because what we need is more women in power, not men like Trump who continue to show us that they lack respect for more than half of America.”
