Democratic Denver Mayor Michael Hancock apologized after going against his own coronavirus guidelines by traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Hancock called on the citizens of his city to stay home for Thanksgiving, avoiding any unnecessary travel and hosting virtual gatherings in place of traditional, in-person meals.

The article goes on to state the following:

He urged them to “pass the potatoes, not COVID” in a tweet posted just 30 minutes before he boarded a plane to visit his daughter, who had taken a job out of state.

After being caught violating his own rules, the mayor issued the following “apology” statement:

I fully acknowledge that I have urged everyone to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel. I have shared how my family cancelled our plans for our traditional multi-household Thanksgiving celebration.

What I did not share, but should have, is that my wife and my daughter have been in Mississippi, where my daughter recently took a job. As the holiday approached, I decided it would be safer for me to travel to see them than to have two family members travel back to Denver.

I recognize that my decision has disappointed many who believe it would have been better to spend Thanksgiving alone. As a public official, whose conduct is rightly scrutinized for the message it sends to others…

…I apologize to the residents of Denver who see my decision as conflicting with the guidance to stay at home for all but essential travel.

I made my decision as a husband and father, and for those who are angry and disappointed, I humbly ask you to forgive decisions that are borne of my heart and not my head

According to reports, the mayor posted the following statement just 30 minutes before he hopped on a plane to Houston:

The backlash was fierce. See below:

  1. Wow! I’m glad I didn’t listen to these hypocrites and stay home!!! I traveled far and wide to see my family and I’m NOT sorry!

  2. Most of these Democrats think a unapologetic apology will smooth things over.
This is much like a wife beater who gets all sorrowful after he blacks her eyes and knocks out a few teeth.
You can’t forget or forgive some things.
I guess they never learned that.

  3. The above are all great comments! Everyone can think what they may about Glenn Beck but my husband and I use to watch him. He was 100% spot on about Obama. A favorite saying of his was, “while the right hand is doing something to distract you, you need to watch what the left hand is doing”. He was so right. This is what the democrats have been doing all along! I trust nothing that comes out of their mouths nor will I ever. They are the great deceivers. We have to keep faith and continue to look up. Put no faith in man. Psalm 146.

  4. The apologies mean nothing. This is what communist leaders do tell citizens to do one thing while they do opposite. I’m tired of them all. They all need voted out. People’s hate for Trumps personality ruled more than their common sense.
