FORT MYERS, FL. (WWSB) –  Fort Myers police officer Adam Jobbers-Miller died Saturday at Lee Memorial Hospital.

The officer was shot in the head one week ago during a reported disturbance at a Marathon gas station on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.

The Fort Myers Police Department issued this statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform our community that Fort Myers Police Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller has passed away as a result of the injuries sustained on Saturday, July 21st.  We ask that you continue to pray for Officer Jobbers-Miller’s family, friends and our entire Fort Myers Police Department Family.”

The Fort Myers News Press further reported on the suspect who shot him, Wisner Desmaret, a Hatian national who is reportedly in the U.S. illegally:

Wisner Desmaret is now in the custody of the Fort Myers Police Department after he was taken to Lee County Jail on Sunday night.

Desmaret, a suspect in the shooting of Fort Myers police Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller, had been in Lee Memorial recovering from wounds he received the night of the shooting.

Jobbers-Miller had been in Lee Memorial Hospital since the July 21 shooting, fighting for his life after he was shot in the head while trying to apprehend the suspect.

Jobbers-Miller died Saturday night.

There were nine charges listed for Desmaret, including two charges of first-degree homicide, two assault on a police officer, one robbery with a firearm, one battery on police officer, one burglary, one larceny and one obstruction charge.
