A high school swim coach in Indiana had sex with a teen girl he coached at public parks and in a hotel, where he recorded the illicit tryst, federal authorities said.

John C. Goelz, 29, of Carmel, remains in the custody of US Marshals after his arrest on Tuesday. Authorities learned of a possible relationship between Goelz and a 17-year-old girl he coached at the Carmel Swim Club and Carmel High School’s swim team in June, US Attorney Josh Minkler announced Thursday.

The article goes on to state the following:

Investigators captured screen shots of text messages exchanged between Goelz and the teen that indicated a physical relationship dating back to February. A search warrant was later obtained for Goelz’s home and his cellphone, revealing that Goelz and the girl had sex in public parks in Hamilton County, as well as Goelz’s home and a hotel in Anderson, Minkler said.

Goelz recorded the encounter with the teen at the hotel with his cellphone, where a video file of the rendezvous was found, federal authorities said.

Goelz worked as a volunteer assistant swim coach at the 5,000-student school since the 2015-16 season, a district spokeswoman told the Indianapolis Star. He is no longer affiliated with the school or the swim club, she said.
