DETROIT— Border Patrol agents assigned to the Marysville Station have arrested a formally deported convicted felon who was wanted for an outstanding warrant by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, the United States Border Patrol was contacted by the Lapeer Police Department to assist in identifying a subject as part of an investigation. During questioning by U.S. Border Patrol agents the subject freely admitted he had illegally crossed into the United States in 2014.

The subject later identified as Sergio Nunez-Barrera and citizen of Mexico was transported back to the Marysville Border Patrol Station for further processing.

The article goes on to state the following:

During processing, it was determined that Nunez-Barrera has been arrested by the United States Border Patrol nine previous times dating back to 2000.  It was also confirmed that Nunez was convicted of 8 USC 1325 (Improper entry by alien) in September of 2012 and sentenced to 30 days incarceration.

“This is outstanding example of our law enforcement community working together and taking a criminal off the streets,” said Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison.

Sergio Nunez-Barrer was processed and turned over to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office for his outstanding warrant on burglary charges. A I-247 detainer was placed on Nunez to be returned to the custody of the United States Border Patrol once he is released from the Lapeer County Sheriff’s custody.
