Russian intelligence officers indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller communicated regularly with someone close to senior members of then-candidate Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible links with the Trump campaign, indicted 12 Russian nationals on Friday for hacking into the emails and computer servers owned by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic National Committee, and Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

The article goes on to state the following:

In the indictment, Russians posing as Guccifer 2.0 wrote to someone on or about Aug. 15, 2016, who was in “regular contact” with senior members of Trump’s campaign.

The Washington Post first reported on June 14, 2016, that the Russian government hacked DNC computers. A day later, Guccifer 2.0 claimed responsibility for the hack as a “lone hacker.”

Roger Stone, who was an adviser on the Trump campaign until August 2015, wrote an article in August 2016 claiming that Guccifer 2.0 was not connected to the Russian government. However, Stone later admitted that he did communicate with Guccifer 2.0 between Aug. 14, 2016 and Sept. 9, 2016.

The indictment notes that Guccifer 2.0 was in communication with the unnamed U.S. person on or about Aug. 17, 2016 and on or about Sept. 9, 2016, but did not identify the person.
