Just a day after she announced her candidacy for president, US Sen. Kamala Harris has already pulled in $1.5 million in campaign donations.

A torrent of small donations flooded the California Democrat’s war chest in the 24 hours since she announced her bid Monday — tying Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 record for largest haul in a single day and suggesting the freshman California pol has the cachet to mount a serious bid, her campaign said.

The article goes on to state the following:

Harris, 54, made her presidential aspirations official during an appearance on “Good Morning America” Monday. Since then, some 38,000 donors contributed for an average gift of $37 — that’s more donors and a smaller average contribution than the $43.50 a piece that Sanders cobbled together from 35,000 donors in 2016.
