North Korean defector Hee Yeon Lim, 26, who is the daughter of a high-ranking soldier from Pyongyang and the regime’s inner circle, has unveiled some of dictator Kim Jong Un’s dirty secrets and what life was like inside the secretive rogue state. These secrets included teen sex slaves, lavish caviar lunches and gory public executions.
When her father, Col. Wui Yeon Lim, 51, passed away, she and her family took the opportunity to flee the country to South Korea in 2015.
Hee Yeon has spoken to The Mirror about the “terrible things” in her home city of Pyongyang, despite her family’s relative privilege compared to others.
She said officials came to her school to pick out teen schoolgirls to work at their dictator’s homes, claiming they would only choose the prettiest girls to feed him caviar and massage him. Hee Yeon mentioned he would dine out on imported delicacies like caviar and Chinese “bird’s nest soup,” the cost of such food being $2,700 a kilo (2.2 pounds). And if the girls refused to entertain the communist leader, they would “disappear.”
On one brutal occasion, she was forced to watch the slaughtering of a group of 11 musicians who were accused of making a pornographic video.
Another time, Hee Yeon and her classmates were ordered out of their classrooms in the middle of the day by soldiers. They took the young students to a stadium at the city’s military academy, before hooded and gagged victims were brought out. The victims were then tied to the end of anti-aircraft guns as 10,000 spectators watched.
The escapee then recalled how the guns were fired one by one, saying: “The musicians just disappeared each time the guns were fired into them… Their bodies were blown to bits, totally destroyed, blood and bits flying everywhere.”
If that gruesome scene wasn’t enough, Hee Yeon said tanks would then move in and run over the remaining pieces of the victims’ bodies: “The tracks of the tanks were run over the remains and blood repeatedly, over and over again, and made to grind the remains, to smash them into the ground until there was nothing left.”
Left feeling “desperately ill” after witnessing such a disturbing execution, she and her family paid smugglers to drive them across the border to China to escape their lives in North Korea, before traveling on to South Korea.
